What was supposed to be a public inquiry to investigate the Nova Scotia massacres has repudiated it's duty to do a fulsome investigation into the details surrounding the massacres. Concepts such as investigation of the involved parties and police response has been cancelled and instead we have a symbolic commission to deal with in Kim Stanton's words: "historical injustices in established democracies", the symbolic commission spends it's time flip-flopping like a fish out of water between an advertisement for all the unexamined, untested certitude of the new religion of academia/ the administrate caste and an attempt to shoe-horn in all the devils and demons of this new religion as being relevant.
The new religion of seeing colonialism, whiteness, queer drain, racism, marginalization, power and privilege and masculinity as the root of all issues and problems in society including the NS massacres.
In praxis, much like the thesis and pedagogy that came before it, this has simply turned into an attack on all the old ideas, old culture, old customs, and old habits of a democratic pluralistic society based on the marketplace of ideas as a form of evil that needs to be exorcised from society.
We've been told evidence based investigation, cross examination, weighing the determinants of confidence in judgement under uncertainty aren't tools that have been honed over hundreds of years for their ability to dig up truth but simply traditions from a colonial, white and racist society meant to hold down marginalized peoples. That we need to "reconcile truths" and come to terms with the idea that everyone's subjective feelings are just as good as evidence based practice. Anyone or any idea that puts into doubt the value of returning to various epistemic tribalisms and abandoning the reality based community that has a shared method of discovering and agreeing what constitutes truth is problematized and labeled racist, misogynist, colonial or suffering under the disease of "whiteness", and as such some kind of hateful bigot that doesn't show allyship with the "marginalized"
It seems obvious to any observer of this process, this isn't really an investigation so much as an attack on our social norms in an attempt to transform society.
Of course if they've abandoned evidence based reasoning in favor of subjective truths, one must wonder where they get the certitude for their beliefs? How do they know they are right?
Obviously they don't, they feel they are right to push ideas that maintain their own social status and as such the mass casualty commission has been nothing more than a cadre of elites pushing luxury beliefs and practices to maintain their own status and advertising those beliefs to the rest of us based on nothing but their feelings.
The mass casualty commission is the exact fundamentalist threat identified in the famous book on free speech "Kindly Inquisitors: the new attacks on free thought" by Jonathan Rauch.
Many of the participants at mass casualty commission suffer from total certitude, an inability to take into consideration they might be wrong, they suffer from:
Fundamentalism—the intellectual style, not the religious movement—is the strong disinclination to take seriously the notion that you might be wrong. For instance, the Ayatollah Khomeini, probably the most influential and implacable fundamentalist of our age, told an interviewer in 1979, “I do know that, during my long lifetime, I have always been right about what I said.”
Instead of commissioners that examine the weight and strength of evidence we seem to have Ayatollah's of a new world religion that want to transform OBJECTIVE societies based on democratic pluralism and the marketplace of ideas where there is shared agreement on investigation, discovery and the production of knowledge to SUBJECTIVE societies based on subjective experiences where all feelings are considered just one of many "truths". To achieve this operative goal of transformation they just repeatedly label all the time tested customs, ideas, culture and habits of a democratic society that can produce truth and knowledge as "colonialism, racism, whiteness" and an attack on marginalized people.
It's intellectually barren and self serving, they make a lot of money off spouting the new religions beliefs and demonizing the only method that has reliably produced knowledge and peaceful society, investigation and analysis based on the determinants of confidence, the strength and weight of evidence in which anyone can put forward ideas and have those ideas tested by an independent and disparate group of fact checkers.
Instead MCC is pushing for a subjective world of various tribalisms in which annoited hobbessian Ayatollah's (like themselves) can dictate which subjective beliefs and feelings have value and which do not.
Spoiler: the subjective feelings that have worth are the ones that push the cultural revolution and the ones which are worthless, is any social habit, custom or idea that holds onto the norms of our past western democratic society. The "trauma oriented lens" has been an example of this, disenfranchising the public and families of the victims and eliminating cross examination of key witnesses and most the investigation. In practice, protecting the powerful and privileged at the cost of regular civilians.
An advertisement for Hobbessian rule and the research shows how the advertisement infects the human mind with it's propaganda:
We’re so easily manipulated by advertising that when it comes to marketing food, the messages don’t even have to be truthful to shape our memory. Kathryn LaTour, the Cornell researcher, conducted a series of culinary tests, including one in which vinegar and salt were used to turn orange juice into a nasty brew. “ I thought this juice was pretty terrible,” one of her college student volunteers said when given an initial taste. “It was bitter and watered down.” Then came the alchemy of advertising. The subjects were shown commercials that portrayed this same beverage as being “sweet, pulpy, and pure.” And with those mere words, their memory of the juice was transformed. Less than an hour had passed since they had actually tasted the juice, and gagged at the vinegary, salty flavor. But after watching the ad, the memory of the actual juice was supplanted by the ad"

One day maybe someone will write a book:
MCC: Advertisement, free thought and how the cultural elites exploit NS MASSACRES to push cultural revolution.
You say you want a revolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know that you can count me out
